ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET HELD AT SAINIK SCHOOL KALIKIRI

The Annual Athletic Meet of Sainik School Kalikiri for the academic year 2016- 17 was held on 26 February 2017 with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. The prestigious event was attended by the Chief Guest, Air Commodore P Maheshwar, Vayu Sena Medal, Deputy Director-General, National Cadets Corps, and Guest of Honour Mrs Smita Maheshwar. Offg Principal Wg Cdr VS Dangwal extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and the gathering. In his welcome address, he said that the school aims at providing the best of sports facilities for the cadets. He added that sports offer a cadet another perspective to nurture his curiosity and channelize his energy in a positive manner. The first event of the meet was the March Past by the cadets led by the School Captain and their respective House Captains.  The cadets marched proudly with precision and perfect synchronization in their house colours to the tune of the Band. After the march past, there was the arrival of the torch followed by lighting of the flame by the Chief Guest. The athletes then took an oath, pledging to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship within them. The Chief Guest declared the Annual Athletic Meet 2016-17 open to a thunderous applause from all. Rhythmic drill by cadets drew applause and admiration from the gathering. The sway of body movements to the school band in rhythmic drill was astounding. The gathering then witnessed the tracks on fire amidst a stiff competition with the four houses trying for dominance in various track and field events. This year the meet has got more colours with inclusion of 100m and 400m hurdle; Discus throw and Javelin throw. Cadet Akash Kumar of Tungabhadra House was adjudged the ‘Best Athlete’ in sub- juniors category. Cadet Balwanth Kumar of Godavari and Cadet Rana Prathap of Penna shared the ‘Best Athlete’ award in novices’ category. The much coveted overall championship trophy was clinched by Penna House.Tungabhadra, Godavari and Krishna stood in the second, third and fourth positions respectively. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour gave away the medals and trophies to the winners. The Chief Guest, in his closing address appreciated the efforts of Principal, staff and cadets for stellar role in making the event a grand success and he wished that the school will keep the flag flying high in the years to come. The gallery of spectators included staff, families and parents. The function drew to its close with the National Anthem.
